Happiness is...

The skin is the body’s largest organ.

The skin is made up of two important layers, the dermis and the epidermis.

The dermis is like the skin’s scaffolding - it contains key structural components that are critical for normal strength, elasticity and hydration.

The epidermis provides the waterproof barrier function of the skin, preventing external substances from entering the body and water from leaving the body.

Excessive scratching can lead to dry, flaky skin and a compromised skin barrier, which is often itchy, resulting in more scratching and further compromise to the skin barrier. Without intervention this itch-scratch cycle can quickly result in significant damage to the skin.

If your dog or cat's itching is seasonal, it could be allergy related.
